Designer of the Week is Cross Stitch Collectibles! With beautiful, detailed designs, you are bound to create a masterpiece. See more Cross Stitch Collectibles Designs Facebook has created a unique way of maintaining your friends in a virtual hangout. With Facebook, you can send someone a virtual gift, hug, food, and even money! A friend just sent me a cool $10 in Facebook. Now what can I get with that? Virtually nothing.
Still if you are a Facebook addict, you know that the main attraction of this website is the status updates, the photo albums and the endless quizzes. People update with everything that is going on in their lives, be it the most mundane things or the most exciting things like jumping in the middle of Sahara Desert. Seriously, if you were jumping in the middle of Sahara Desert, wouldn’t you prefer to enjoy the moment and the jumping, rather than rush to a sterile computer, login to your Facebook and tell everyone about it? Whatever happened to living in the moment? If I were on top of Mount Everest, the last thing in my mind would be when would I be able to update my Facebook about this? And if I’ve just gotten into a car accident and is fighting for my life, I’d be sure to get my mobile phone and tell everyone on Facebook “Hey people it’s been nice knowing you but I’m about to die. Don’t forget to feed my cat.” Yes, that’s a big possibility since now you can update your Facebook status updates via your mobile connections. Maybe you can even get a good connection in heaven so that you can update everyone about what it’s like. That is my pet peeve about Facebook and other social networking sites and that none of my friends are calling me. There’s no need to meet up because we know exactly what is going on each others’ lives and if you can get a virtual cake, there’s no need to eat either. Think of all the calories you can lose with virtual desserts! I’m glad my closest friends are not that active in Facebook. It means that we still have a chance to keep our friendship fresh and intact. For my other ‘friends’ in Facebook, I’ve learnt so much about you. The top ten things I’ve learned are:- 1. I know every single furniture, dress, pants, appliances, mobile phones, rings, haircuts that you’ve bought. It’s not hard to guess how much you are earning and if I need a loan, you’d be the first person I call. 2. I know what you eat and when you eat. The only thing I don’t want to know is where it all goes after that. That’s just too much information. 3. I know you have a maid and you’ve never taken care of your children for a day in your life. And that you are proud of it. Now you know I have to judge when you state it all so plainly for everyone to see. Hopefully mommies-to-be in your Facebook don’t take parental lessons from you. 4. I know when you are asleep. It’s sad though that you have to do it on your computer. After all the furniture you bought last week, did you not get a bed? And please don’t update us about your dreams. Some of them should be kept private. 5. I know that you think the quizzes in Facebook are the Truth of all Truths. I really don’t want to burst your bubble that you could possibly be the next Angeline Jolie, but people like you and me create these quizzes and I can put ANYTHING I like in those quizzes. I’m thinking of creating a quiz later titled ‘Are you a frog or a toad?’. 6. I know how much you love to save money by sending virtual birthday presents to your friends on their special day. Just because you add a personal message does not make it ok. 7. I know what your husband look like. I know all your children’s faces, your mother, your father, your teacher, your boss, your dog, your aunties, your uncles, your cousins and your stinky pillow. At least if they ever do anything nasty in public, I will recognize them for you. Better yet, I’ll let you know with a status update. 8. I know all your travel plans, your vacation plans and when you are going to the market. Heck, I even know when you are going to the toilet! Basically, I know when you will be out of your house. Maybe it’s time to invest in a security system. 9. I know when you are married and flirting with my single friend in Facebook that a virtual affair has just became a public affair. 10. Last but not least, I know that you can do better than just hang around in a virtual world telling people what you are doing every second of the day. Get up, get out, meet your real friends and make a real connection. And when you sleep at night today, you’d know that you didn’t waste your day on a virtual connection that disappears after a few hours and probably only exists in a virtual plane. Hamidah Gul is a freelance published writer whose works in fiction have been published both in print and electronically. I saw this image on one of those Facebook quizzes and wow I thought it looked beautiful and how nice it would be if this is converted to cross stitch. No idea whose photo this is though and I hope I’m not infringing any copyrights by posting it here. This is pure adoration
001. Real name ? Hamidah Gul FIRSTS: CURRENTLY: YOUR FUTURE: WHICH IS BETTER? HAVE YOU EVER: DO YOU BELIEVE IN: ANSWER TRUTHFULLY: Online shopping is taking the world by storm. Be it for groceries, clothes or even car parts, more and more people are signing up and shopping away with just a click of a mouse. Why is shopping online much more attractive then going out to the mall? Read on for my list of the top 10 reasons why online shopping is so much fun! 1. You get to wear whatever you want. Yes, you can even wear your PJs, and *ahem* even your birthday suit. No one is going to judge you or think that skin of yours is so last year. You get to shop in the most comfortable way you can think of. And girls, there is no need to spend hours putting on make-up or doing your hair. For some I’m sure this is a drawback, but for most of us, a definite plus! 2. No more crowds and scary salespeople. The days of wading your way through hundreds of people are gone. No more pushing people around or getting pushed. No more coming into the store and having the salesperson watch your every move as if your face had been on the Shoplifters Most Wanted. When it comes to online shopping, you are at peace wherever you are. In fact, online folks are a lot friendlier. You might even make friends while you are shopping away. I’ve met many customers and shop owners that became very good friends. 3. You can take your time. There is absolutely no pressure when it comes to online shopping. You have hours, days and weeks at your disposal. You can take your time to think about it, and ensure that there is minimum regret. Of course impulsive buying doesn’t stop short with online shopping. Still, your time is your own and you are in charge of it. The website will not stare you down for a sale. 4. Things get delivered to you. As much as I love going shopping, the one thing I hate most is carrying the things I bought. Online shopping has lightened my burden in more ways than one and having my order delivered to me is definitely the biggest draw. 5. Search and compare. If there are ten shops in the city offering the pair of shoes you want, it will be so tiring to visit all of them to find the best price. If you have a computer and a connection, checking ten online shops is a breeze. With time in your hands, you can search and compare shops to find the ones that have the best price and promotions. Shipping and handling costs varies too so it pays to have that as one of your must-do comparison. 7. Save the Earth. I know this sounds a little huge but every little bit counts. By shopping online, you didn’t use any petrol or erode the earth in any way. Maybe you might have send some radioactive vapors but hey that’s just a rumor. 8. Online shopping is available anytime. If you are not a daytime person, and prefer to do your surfing at the wee hours of 2 or 3 am, amazingly you can still shop. That’s one of the best things about online shopping. It’s available the whole year, every day of the week. Even the owner goes on vacation, you can still shop! 9. Finding rare items. As the net gets bigger and bigger, the opportunity of getting a great variety of items becomes endless. Maybe you are looking for something that was made ten years ago and now it’s no longer sold. There’s bound to be at least one person trying to sell it off somewhere. 10. The Anticipation. You know when you open your mailbox and you see that shining and maybe a little crumpled package there waiting for you. There is this sudden feeling of anticipation and excitement as you grab it, run upstairs and tear the wrapper apart. That’s what online shopping does for you. Because when you get that much awaited order, it feels like Christmas came early just for you! Hamidah Gul is a freelance published author who usually writes horror and comedy. In a cab in BKK and a bus stopped inches from crashing against my cab, in Tioman when I slipped while climbing a mountain and hung on to a limb till my friend grabbed me and pulled me to safety. 20. I’ve had moments where I prayed so hard for God to help me and He did. He didn’t have to but He did. 21. I wish that Global warming is less a political issue and more of a humanitarian issue. Our kids are going to suffer! 22. A lot of people tell me that giving birth is a magical experience. I wish they had told me the truth! Too many things were violated during mine but the magic did happen. Months later. 23. I love that I’m so comfortable with my friends. It feels like home and its hard for me to find this comfort in new friends. It’s our history that makes us the way we are now. 24. I don’t take life for granted. I can die tomorrow. 25. I hope I become a better Muslim before I die. That I’ve done enough to outweigh my sins so that God will forgive me somehow. I think to myself lessen the options if I still can’t do it the most important decision by Hamidah Gul |
